Victoria, Canada. July 14th, 2003

Hi,

Having travelled to many countries of the world, I must confess that there are few places as beautiful and pleasant to live in as Victoria, Canada. We had many opportunities to appreciate its beauty as we recently hosted some special friends from UK. If you meet them and see the smiles on their faces you will understand that they got them here! We love having visits from special friends so please plan a trip to see us.

First to arrive were Fiona & Keith Thompson of Ascot. Keith was the anesthesiologist on board the Anastasis when we were in Africa and we deeply appreciate him, not just for the marvelous work he did for so many needy Africans but also for the warm hearts of generosity and friendship both he and Fiona have. We visited Butchart Gardens, one of our most famous landmarks, where Keith took dozens of photos. I now have a CD full of wonderful pictures - where would we be without digital cameras? They were also able to visit with Fiona's aunt who lives nearby and other Anastasis crew members from up-island. From Victoria they sailed to Seattle where Keith gave a couple of lectures to other medics.

While they were here, Rob Ash arrived from Bridgend. This is his second home having been to visit us in Canada fifteen times since we first arrived in 1975. Rob is an itinerant gospel singer who has a considerable ministry in UK especially in the prisons. He is always welcome here even though he loves to play practical jokes with me usually as the butt of them. His visit briefly overlapped with the long-awaited arrival of Rob & Janice Bristow from Newport. Janice was one of the first young people we had in our youth work, so blessed by the Lord in Wales in 1973-5. We knew that we would have lots of laughs with both Robs here and so it proved. Don't you feel good after laughter! They enjoyed playing practical jokes on one another (but I'd better not tell you of them in case I'll be the next victim!)

As regards the church: When we arrived home I had a heavy burden to minister here in Victoria and not just when I'm 'on the road'. Thus it was that, with a close friend of many years ago, also a pastor, I have begun a new work. We wish to be a church committed to supporting other churches in the city and not be in competition with them. There have been just a few meetings and, while Bo and his wife are currently leading worship, I am teaching a simple series on 'The Church' . This is not a detailed Bible study but one designed to lay out some bases for the new fellowship. You can find my ongoing thoughts on this web page under Church .

Anne and I continue to be in good health though we both feel our age at times, especially after a day working in the garden! She goes to a gym each morning at 6am while I try to keep fit on a bicycle. Working with young people as I have done all my life, tends to keep one young. I am still active with the local YWAM and Intervarsity groups and am privileged to have many 'sons & daughters' locally. I am teaching a series with YWAM next week on 'Forgiveness & Release' and then will be conducting two retreats for IVCF later in the year. Anne continues to be a 'mum' to the students who live with us. Currently we have two young men from China and a young lady from Japan here to learn English, and an older man from Persia, working locally. We cannot travel overseas again until next year, as this is my sixty-fifth year and my pension might be adversely affected if I am out of the country for more than six months in the year. This gives us good time to work on our garden and home, do the many other tasks necessary after being away for some time, and to entertain visitors. When are YOU coming?

Our daughters Corinne and Andrea, with their husbands and children, continue to enjoy good health and are active in their churches. Of course we already look forward to our next visit to Lynette and her family 'downunder' in two years time - what a blessing to have children who love the Lord!

We send our love to you all with best wishes for the Lord's richest blessings poured out on you - for the praise of His glory.
